Kathmandu, October 11. Some elements can stoop to any level to influence the prime ministerial election, it appears.
UCPN-Maoist Chair Prachanda and some Maoist lawmakers have given enough indications of unscrupulous plots underway to influence the process.
Prachanda revealed certain quarters have tried to buy Maoist votes for crores of rupees.
At the UCPN-Maoist Parliamentary Party meeting today, Prachanda said throughout yesterday night, there were efforts to buy Maoist lawmakers’ loyalty.
Some lawmakers reported receiving offers of Rs 5 crore to 30 crore, while others reported receiving threats, a Maoist lawmaker told Online Khabar, quoting Prachanda. Most of those receiving the threats are from Madhesh.
The Maoist leader directed all lawmakers to vote for Oli, no matter what.
An unidentified person threatened to shoot lawmaker Nisha Sah if she voted for CPN-UML Chair and PM candidate KP Sharma Oli. “Someone called me on the phone from Madhesh. The person threatened to shoot me if I vote for Oli.”
Another Maoist lawmaker, Soniya Yadav, reportedly received a similar threat.
Nisha told Online Khabar all 83 UCPN-Maoist lawmakers will vote for Oli as per the party’s decision, regardless of the threats.
